Example

Search a string for the character "e":

let text = "The best things in life are free"; let pattern = /e/;

Description

The test() method tests for a match in a string.

If it finds a match, it returns true, otherwise it returns false.

Browser Support

test() is an ECMAScript1 (ES1) feature.

ES1 (JavaScript 1997) is fully supported in all browsers:

string	Required. The string to be searched

Return Value

Type	Description
Boolean	Returns true if it finds a match, otherwise false
